Income Tax: ITR-5 and ITR-7 are available for online filing
Income Tax: If you file tax, you will know that filing income tax return (ITR) every year is mandatory. But there is no one form for everyone. The Income Tax Department has prepared different ITR forms according to the category of taxpayers. Recently, ITR-5 and ITR-7 forms have been made available for online filing, which is for the assessment year 2025-26.
Think about it – on one side there are individual salary earners who mostly file ITR-1 or ITR-2, and on the other hand there are some special categories such as firms, LPS, trusts, political parties. There is a different form for gins. Only those people will use ITR-5 and ITR-7.
Let’s understand what these forms are for, how they are done, and what the filing deadlines are.

ITR-5 and ITR-7: What are they available for?
First of all, let’s be clear – these forms are not for Individuals and Hindu Independent Families (HAFS). This means that if you are a salaried person or running your own small business with individual capacity, then you do not need to fill out these forms.
ITR-5 and ITR-7 have been made only for those taxpayers who fall under a special category. Such as:
- ITR-5 ke liye eligible taxpayers:
- Firms
- Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs)
- Association of Persons (AOPs)
- Body of Individuals (BOIs)
- Cooperative Societies
- Local Authorities
- ITR-7 ke liye eligible taxpayers:
- Charitable Trusts
- Political Parties
- Research Organisations
- News Agencies
- Religious or Charitable Institutions
To be honest, these terms seem a bit heavy for a common man. But let’s take a small sample – if you are the secretary of a cooperative housing society that manages maintenance and funds, then that society will have to file ITR-5. And if there is a charitable trust that runs a school in the village and takes donations, then that trust will have to file ITR-7.
Pre-Filled Data ki Suvidha
Is baar Income Tax Department ne ek helpful feature add kiya hai – pre-filled information. Matlab jab aap ITR form open karenge, toh aapko kai basic details already filled milengi, jaise PAN details, Aadhaar link, past income records, TDS data etc.
The advantage of this is that you will not need to fill all the data manually again and again. The risk of having a mistake is also reduced.
Filing Deadline: Dhyan Rakhna Zaroori Hai
There is an important point in tax filing – missing deadlines. That’s why you should remember the date.
- For taxpayers who are required to be audited (such as LPS, cooperative societies, or trusts that have their accounts audited), the last date is 31 October 2025.
- For those who do not need an audit, the deadline was September 16, 2025.
So, if you fall into the eligible category, it is best to file before the deadline by talking to your CA or logging in to the portal yourself.
How to File ITR-5 and ITR-7 Online?
Now comes the question of how to file. The process is simple, just the steps have to be followed:
- First of all, go to the e-filing website of the Income Tax Department.
- Login here with your user ID and password. (You can use PAN instead of ID).
- After login, go to the e-File section.
- Yahan se Income Tax Return option select kijiye.
- Apna Assessment Year 2025-26 select karke relevant ITR form (ITR-5 ya ITR-7) choose kijiye.
- Fill the form, verify, and submit.
Pro Note – If you are filling these forms for the first time, then taking the help of a professional CA or tax consultant will be a safe option. Because a small mistake can lead to a penalty.
Real-Life Scenario
One is my friend’s cooperative society in Mumbai. They get maintenance from the members every year and that money is audited. Last year, the society missed the deadline, due to which they had to pay late filing fees and interest. Think about it – there was an inordinate tension among the members.
So if you manage a trust, LLP or society, it’s best to set a calendar reminder.
